Andrea Back

Andrea Back (* 1960 ) is an economist and professor of business administration and director of the Institute for Information Systems at the University of St. Gallen .

Life

Back studied business administration at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1979 to 1984 . She then worked there as a research assistant at the chair of Peter Mertens , one of the founding fathers of business informatics in German-speaking countries. After receiving her PhD in 1988 with her dissertation on the subject of "Life cycle-oriented product controlling" rer. pole. In 1989, Back took over the management of the corporate planning and control group in the field of business informatics . In addition, from 1991 to 1992 she was a lecturer for IV support in strategic management at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich.

After her habilitation in business administration (1993) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, she was appointed professor for business administration and director of the Institute for Information Systems at the University of St. Gallen in 1994.

Back was repeatedly visiting professor, in 1999 for information management at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at the University of Vienna, in 2006 at the City University of Hong Kong (Information Systems) and in 2012 at the University of Navarra (WiWi).

Research and Teaching

Andrea Back's research focuses on the innovative application of new technologies in the business environment, in particular mobile business applications, the organization of communication and collaboration with social software, as well as digital transformation . She heads the competence areas Mobile Business and Business 2.0 and teaches in the Business Innovation program at the University of St. Gallen.
