Andrea Guarneri

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andrea Guarneri (* around 1626; † December 7, 1698 ) was an Italian violin maker with a workshop in Cremona .

Andrea Guarneri was a student and assistant to Nicola Amati from 1641–1646 and an apprentice to Antonio Stradivari in the workshop of Andrea Guarneri. He made violins again for Amati from 1650–1654. His early instruments are based on the “large Amati” shape, but they do not match the quality of his teacher. Andrea Guarneri's violas are particularly popular instruments. Particularly noteworthy are the so-called " Conte Vitale " from 1676 with a body length of 41.5 cm and the so-called " Primrose " from 1677, which was played by William Primrose .

His grandson Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù was the most famous member of the Guarneri family of violin makers .
