Andrea Liberovici (* 1962 in Turin ) is an Italian composer and theater director.

life and work

Andrea Liberovici was born in 1962 into a musical family. His father Sergio (1930–1991) was a composer (among other things he worked with Italo Calvino on a new repertoire of folk songs), his mother Margherita Galante Garrone was the singer and founder of the “Gran teatrino la fede delle femmine” under the pseudonym Margot. Liberovici grew up with his mother and the musicologist Giovanni Morelli (1942-2011) in Venice . In his early youth he began to study composition, violin and viola at the conservatories in Venice and Turin; he also studied singing with Cathy Berberian .

In the late 1970s, at the age of 14 and 16 respectively, he recorded two rock LPs with pieces he composed himself.

At the age of 20 he continued his composition studies, this time from the perspective of the theater. In 1996, thanks to a meeting with the poet and playwright Edoardo Sanguineti, Liberovici founded the “teatrordelsuono” (“sound theater”) with him. His most recent work, Faust's Box , is the culmination of his preoccupation with different languages and means of expression, which are ultimately interwoven.
