Andreas Gathmann (born April 9, 1970 in Hanover ) is a German mathematician who deals with algebraic geometry .

Andreas Gathmann, Oberwolfach 2007

Gathmann received his doctorate in 1998 from the Leibniz University in Hanover with Klaus Hulek (Gromov-Witten- and degeneration invariants: computation and enumerative significance). He was at Harvard University and the Institute for Advanced Study (2001/2) and is a professor at the TU Kaiserslautern , where he completed his habilitation in 2003 (Gromov-Witten Invariants of Hypersurfaces).

He deals with complex algebraic geometry, enumerative algebraic geometry ( Gromov-Witten theory ) and tropical algebraic geometry , a branch of algebraic geometry with close links to combinatorics.

Hannah Markwig is one of his doctoral students .
