Andrew Neumann

Andrew Neumann (* 1958 ) is an American musician in the field of electronic and interactive music, installation artist and filmmaker.

Neumann trained as a filmmaker at Emerson College . He was a 1985 New England Film / Video Fellow . As artist in residence he worked a. a. at the Experimental Television Center (1982 and 1987), the Ucross Foundation (1998), the MacDowell Colony (2000), the Art Omi International Arts Center (2000) and the Atlantic Center of the Arts (2001). In 2004 he received a Guggenheim scholarship .

Since 2000 he has had several solo exhibitions a. a. at the Kingston Gallery in Boston, the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, the Brush Art Gallery and the New York bitforms Gallery . In his installations, which are described as moving video sculptures, he combines computer-controlled moving parts with cameras, monitors and labeled backgrounds.

Neumann's video productions were u. a. shown at PBS , the Worldwide Video Festival , the Netherlands Worldwide Video Feestival and Artist Space . He presented his electronic music a. a. at Experimental Intermedia in New York, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, the Tremont Theater in Boston, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Eventworks Festival in Boston. He released four albums of electronic music on the Sublingual Records label .

Neumann teaches at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School , the Institute of Boston, and the Boston Film / Video Foundation .
