Andromachos (satrap)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andromachus († 332 BC ) was a governor of Alexander the Great .

He was possibly identical to the Andromachus who was killed at the siege of Tire in 332 BC. BC when Nauarchos commanded the Cypriot fleet during the blockade of the northern port. In the same year he took over the position of governor of Koile Syria ("lower Syria", today Israel-Palestine) on the instructions of Alexander von Parmenion . After Alexander moved on to Egypt, there was an uprising of the people of Samaria , in which Andromachos was killed; he was burned alive.

Alexander suggested in the spring of 331 BC BC put down the rebellion and appointed a certain "Memnon" as the new satrap of Koilesyria, who must have been Menon , who already ruled in "upper Syria".

  2. Curtius Rufus 4.5.9; 4.8.9 .; Julius Kaerst (RE I, 2, Col. 2153) believes that Curtius Rufus' title of Andromachos as governor is incorrect.
