The Androscoggin and Kennebec Railroad is a former railway company in Maine ( United States ). It existed as an independent company from 1845 to 1862.

The company was founded on May 28, 1845 and operated a 87.7 kilometer railway line from Danville Junction to Waterville . In Danville there was a connection to the Atlantic and St. Lawrence Railroad , in Waterville the line of the Penobscot and Kennebec Railroad joined from 1853 .

The line was built in a 1676 mm (5 ft 6 in) gauge as the Atlantic & St. Lawrence had also chosen this gauge. The 42-kilometer section from Danville Junction to Winthrop went into operation on July 3, 1849, the remainder of the line to Waterville followed on November 27, 1849.

On November 30, 1856, Androscoggin & Kennebec leased the Penobscot and Kennebec Railroad for 20 years. On October 28, 1862, the two railroad companies merged to form the Maine Central Railroad . The line was changed to standard gauge in 1871 and is now used by Pan Am Railways .
