Angela Meder

Angela Meder (* 1956 ) is a German primatologist who specializes in gorillas and an environmentalist.

Live and act

Angela Meder studied biology at the University of Heidelberg from 1976 to 1982 with a focus on botany , zoology and ecology . After graduating, she did research and did her doctorate on the topic of “Development of young gorillas in various zoos”. The focus was on the comparison of the behavioral development and social integration of hand-reared and naturally reared gorillas in childhood and early adolescence as well as on influencing the fertility of captive gorillas.

Since 1991 Meder has been involved in the Berggorilla & Regenwald Direkthilfe e. V. (B&RD), in which she has also been a board member since 1992. Another focus is on the exchange with other organizations and scientists as well as the publication of the Gorilla Journal . This is an internationally known, bilingual newsletter that appears every six months.

In 1996 she worked on the television documentary The Last Gentle Giants about Bwindi National Park in Uganda and its gorillas.
