Ajar Eros

The ajar Eros is a statuette of terracotta in the National Antiquities Collections in Munich with the inventory number SL 3, formerly in the collection of James Loeb . Their emergence will be in the advanced 3rd or 2nd century BC. Dated. It could be the work of the coroplast Aglaophon , as the incised letters ΑΓΛ in the back of the figure suggest. It is a work from Asia Minor, possibly a product from Myrina .

The broken wings are reattached, the upper edge of the right wing has been added. The small figure, fired from light brown clay, measures 27.5 cm. It represents an eros leaning against a low Doric column . He leans on his right leg while keeping his left free leg crossed. He is holding a flute and is playing on it. The whole statuette stands on an oval base. Eros wears a bead in his hair, a coat falls elegantly on the red-brown colored back. The spread wings are free.
