Angiras ( Sanskrit अंगिरस् aṅgiras m.) Is one of the seven wise men ( saptarishi ) in Hinduism and, according to some sources, is considered to be their head. Several hymns of the Rig Veda are dedicated to him.

myth

In the myth Angiras is considered the spirit-born son of Brahma . His wives are Smriti ("memory"), Shraddha ("belief"), Svadha ("sacrifice") and Sati ("truth"), his sons are Samvarta, Utathya and Brihaspati , with whom he is sometimes equated. He is also the progenitor of the Angirasas.

Angirasas

The semi-divine priestly family of the Angirasas descends from Angiras. These are associated with celestial phenomena and special fires. They are protectors of sacrificial acts.
