Angulus rides

Praeter omnes angulus appears  in the coat of arms of St. Denis de la Réunion
Henri Bacher (1890–1934), painter from Lorraine, self-portrait, Hic mihi angulus ridet (Here everyone laughs at me angle, 1924)

The Latin expression angulus ridet   means, loosely translated, that this corner of the country makes me happy ( Horace , Oden, Il, 6, 13).

The complete sentence reads: Ille terrarum mihi praeter omnes angulus ridet ( Horace , Oden, Il, 6, 13-14): No corner of the world laughs like this for me.

The expression describes the small and graceful things, the remote places where one finds happiness far from the chaos.
