Aniara. A revue of people in time and space ( Swedish: Aniara. En revy omhabenkan i tid och rum ) is an epic verse by the Swedish writer Harry Martinson , consisting of 103 songs. Martinson was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1974 mainly for this work (together with Eyvind Johnson ).

Aniara was published in Swedish in 1956 (German first edition: 1961).

Aniara was filmed under the direction of Pella Kågerman and Hugo Lilja and had its premiere on February 1, 2019. He was awarded the Guldbagge for best director. Martinson's verse epic forms the basis for Karl-Birger Blomdahl's and Erik Lindegren's operas Aniara .

action

The story takes place on board the spaceship (called "goldonder" in Swedish) Aniara, a huge space transporter which routinely transports 8,000 emigrants from Earth to Mars on every trip because Earth (Doris) suffers from pollution and war . On one of these trips, Aniara has to avoid an unknown asteroid, gets out of course, ends up in a meteor shower and loses her maneuverability. Otherwise the ship remains undamaged and races out of the solar system on a changed course with undiminished speed. The remainder of the narration describes how the crew and passengers dealt with the situation when they learn that rescue is no longer possible. What remains is a life aboard the Aniara for all eternity, or at least until all supplies are used up. An often quoted picture of Aniara's situation is the comparison of the spaceship with a small air bubble in the glass of God's Spirit. The high speed of the spaceship from a human perspective contrasts effectively with its approaching standstill in relation to infinite space-time. In Aniara describes how people solace in religion, sex and philosophy seek. Initially, this also includes Mima, a kind of omniscient computer that captures thought fragments in space and shows them as images that serve as entertainment for the people on board. Chefone, the commander of the spaceship, tries to hide how bad the situation is, but is seen through by Mima's supervisor (called "mimaroben" or "the mimarob") and later by more and more people.
