Lichoslavl ( Russian Лихославль ) is a city in Tver Oblast ( Russia ) with 12,257 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located on the edge of the Lichoslavl ridge about 40 kilometers northwest of the oblast capital Tver .

Lichoslavl is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .

The city lies on the St. Petersburg – Moscow railway line, opened in 1851 , on the former Nikolaibahn (route km 441), from which a line branches off via Torzhok and Rzhev to Vyazma .

history

A village called Ostashkowo has been known since 1624 in the place of today's city . A village called Lichoslawl was first mentioned at the beginning of the 19th century. The places experienced an economic boom with the development of a railway junction through the opening of the two railway lines in 1851 and 1870. A larger station settlement developed.

In 1925 the village and the station settlement were combined to form the city of Lichoslavl . From 1937 to 1939 it was the administrative center of a Karelian National Circle in the Tver Oblast.

In Lichoslavl there is a supplier of the car industry (coolers and heaters), a factory for lighting technology and companies in the textile and food industries.
