Selischarowo ( Russian Селижа́рово ) is an urban-type settlement in Tver Oblast in Russia with 6,725 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is about 150 km as the crow flies west of the Tver Oblast Administrative Center on the Volga at the confluence of the left tributary Selischarowka .

Selischarowo administrative center is the Rajons Selischarowski and seat and only town of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Selischarowo.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1504 and developed into an important trading village until the 19th century.

In 1929 Selischarowo became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. Since 1937 the place has had the status of an urban-type settlement. From 1936 until its temporary dissolution in 1963, the Rajon was named Kirowski rajon after Sergei Kirow . On January 12, 1965, it was rebuilt under the original and current name.

During the Second World War , the settlement was occupied by the German Wehrmacht from October 20, 1941 to January 15, 1942 . The place was badly damaged during the fighting.

Selischarowo has a train station at 112 km of the Torzhok  - Soblago railway that began in the First World War and was finally completed in 1928 .

The settlement is located on the regional road 28K-1179 (formerly R87), which branches off 90 km southeast in Rzhev from the federal trunk road M9 Baltija Moscow  - Velikije Luki  - Latvian border and continues to the northwestern neighboring, almost 40 km away Rajon center Ostashkov .
