Osjorny ( Russian Озёрный ) is a closed (SATO) urban-type settlement in Tver Oblast ( Russia ) with 10,882 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located 170 km as the crow flies northwest of the Tver Oblast Administrative Center and a good 20 km west of the city of Bologoje . It connects directly to the south-west of the rural settlement of Wypolsowo .
The settlement is the only locality in the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije).
history
The place goes back to a military settlement that was built near an airfield in the 1930s. In the 1960s, a unit of the Strategic Missile Forces was stationed there. In this context, the place was expanded considerably by building a prefabricated housing estate. On November 24, 1972, he received the official status of a secret military town (wojenny gorodok) with code name Bologoje-4. In NATO , this location was named after another village to the north-west as Jedrowo or Wypolsowo ; from the 1970s ICBMs of the type MR UR-100 (SS-17) were stationed there.
By resolution of December 24, 1992, Osjorny received the status of an urban-type settlement and a "closed administrative-territorial unit (SATO)" under its current name, derived from osero, Russian for sea .

In 1998 the Andreas Church ( собор Андрея Первозванного , sobor Andreja Pervoswannowo ) was built in Osjorny .
Economy and Infrastructure
Osjorny is the residential area of a site of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces , where RS-12M Topol (SS-25) missiles are still stationed today.
Not far from the settlement, through Vypolsowo, runs the M10 highway , which connects Moscow and Saint Petersburg . The nearest train station is about seven kilometers northwest of Jedrowo on the Bologoye - Pskow railway line , from where a freight connection line leads to Osyorny.
