history

A village called Sandowo, today's Staroje Sandowo ("Old Sandowo") , which is just 15 km to the southeast , was first mentioned around 1500. From the end of the 18th century it belonged to the Ujesd Vessjegonsk of the Tver Governorate .

In the 1920s, the railway line Moscow  - Kimry ( Sawjolowo station ) - Pestowo  - Saint Petersburg passed and the Sandowo station opened not far from the village of Orudowo , where a new settlement was built. The village of Sandowo became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him on January 14, 1929. In February 1932 the administrative seat of the Rajon was transferred to the station settlement, which was united with the village of Orudowo and given the name Sandowo , while the village was renamed Staroye Sandowo .

In 1967, Sandowo received urban-type settlement status.
