Pestowo ( Russian Песто́во ) is a city in the far east of Novgorod Oblast ( Russia ) with 15,903 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the Mologa Sheksna lowland about 310 km east of the oblast capital Veliky Novgorod on the Mologa , a left tributary of the Volga .
Pestowo is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .
The city is located on the railway line ( Saint Petersburg -) Mga - Budogoschtsch - Ovinishche (- Zavyolovo - Moscow ) (km 317) , which was completed in the 1930s .
history
The Pestowo station settlement was built around 1920 (various details between 1918 and 1925) near an old village of the same name during the construction of the railway line between Moscow and Leningrad as an alternative to the former Nikolaibahn .
On January 12, 1965, the town was granted city rights.

economy
In Pestowo there is a factory for prefabricated houses and residential containers, a sawmill of the Finnish UPM-Kymmene and other wood processing companies as well as a large dairy.
