The Mologa ( Russian Молога ) is a left tributary of the Volga in the north-western, European part of Russia .
description
It rises in the Valdai Heights about 30 km west of Beschezk near Klyuchevaya in Tver Oblast . It initially flows in an easterly direction until it turns north at Beschezk. It flows through several lakes, including the Werestowo . It then turns to the southwest and flows through the northwest of Tver Oblast in a wide right-hand bend.
Around 20 km before the border with Novgorod Oblast , it turns back north. It reaches the far east of Novgorod Oblast south of Pestowo , flows through the city, and after a few kilometers it crosses the border to Vologda Oblast .
Here the Mologa initially turns to the northeast. After Ustyuschna it flows very curvy to the east and southeast and finally flows into the Rybinsk reservoir on the Volga about 50 km west of Cherepovets .
The town of the same name, Mologa, was located at the mouth of the Mologa and the Volga until the reservoir was completed in 1947.
The river is frozen from late November to late April / early May. In the ice-free time it is navigable to the community of Schelbajow .
