Chagodoschtscha (Чагодоща, Ча́года) in the catchment area of the Rybinsk Reservoir |
The Tschagodoschtscha ( Russian Чагодоща , in the upper reaches also Russian Ча́года ( Tschagoda )) is a left tributary of the Mologa in the Russian oblasts of Leningrad and Vologda . The Tschagodoschtscha has its headwaters on the Tikhvin ridge , a section of the Valdai heights . The Tschagodoschtscha forms the outflow of the small lake Schipkowskoje in the Boksitogorski rajon in the southeast of the Leningrad Oblast. It flows mainly in a south-easterly direction through the west of the Vologda Oblast and finally flows into the Mologa, a tributary of the Rybinsk Reservoir .
The Chagodoschtscha has a length of 242 km. It drains an area of 9680 km². The Chagodoschtscha is mainly fed by the snowmelt . In spring, in April and May, it leads to floods . The mean discharge 112 km above the mouth is 58 m³ / s. The river is ice-covered from November / December and remains so until the beginning of May.
The most important tributaries of the Chagodoschtscha are Gorjun , Lid and Wnina from the left and Pes from the right. The largest town on the river is the urban-type Chagoda settlement .
The lower 157 km of the river (from the confluence of the Gorjun) form part of the Tikhvin canal system that connects the Volga with the Baltic Sea .
