Tschagoda ( Russian Ча́года ) is an urban-type settlement in the Vologda Oblast ( Russia ) with 6920 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

The settlement is located about 260 kilometers west of Oblastverwaltungszentrums Vologda on the left bank of the Mologa -Nebenflusses Chagodoshcha River (in the upper reaches as Chagoda called). 10 km to the southwest is the urban-type Sasonowo settlement on the A114 highway between Saint Petersburg and Vologda .

Chagoda is the administrative center of the Chagodoschtschenski Rajons of the same name .

history

The place was founded in 1926 in connection with the construction of a glassworks under the name Bely Bychok . In 1927 the settlement projected by Noi Trozki came to the newly formed Verkhne-Tschagodoschtschenki rajon of Leningrad Oblast (renamed Tschagodoschtschenki rajon in 1937 with the formation of Vologda Oblast ) with headquarters in Belyje Kresty (from 1947 Sasonowo ).

In 1932 urban-type settlement status was given. Between 1939 and 1959 (exact year unknown) the place got its current name after the river, and the administrative seat of the Rajon was moved to there.
