The A114 is a federal trunk road in northwestern Russia . It leads from Vologda in a westerly direction to Novaya Ladoga near Saint Petersburg .

The A114 is the fastest connection between the upper Volga region (Vologda, Kostroma , Yaroslavl , beyond to Arkhangelsk and in the direction of the Urals ) and Saint Petersburg (and on to Finland and Estonia ). The road is thus also a cross connection between the roads M8 "Cholmogory" and R21 "Kola" .

The street emerged from the west from the 18th century, when a faster connection between the new capital Saint Petersburg and the Russian Orthodox monasteries near Novaya Ladoga ( Issad ), Tikhvin and Dymi  - some of which were also visited by the Tsar's family - was needed. The road connection led in the east initially via Ustyuschna and Mologa in the direction of Yaroslavl (today regional road R84 in parts). When, from the 1940s, the city of Mologa and large stretches of land were flooded by the Rybinsk Reservoir , the route from Ustyuschna was led over a large area north around the lake via Cherepovets to Vologda .
