The A 157 is a Russian trunk road in the Caucasus . It leads from Karachayevsk in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia to the M29 near Pyatigorsk in the Stavropol region and is 115 kilometers long.

The road first leads from the town of Karachayevsk, located in the Kuban valley at an altitude of 850  m , on the A155 up the valley of the right tributary Mana. Above the village of Verkhnyaya Mana, it crosses the 2000  m high Gumbashi Pass, which can be passed regularly from May to November, over the Skalisty ridge ("rock ridge") of the Greater Caucasus . The ridge reaches a height of 2313  m in the immediate vicinity of the pass with the mountain Gumbaschi of the same name . The right Kuma tributary Podkumok rises near the pass, and the road continues to the area of ​​the “Caucasian mineral water health resorts ” (Kawminwody) around Kislovodsk , Essentuki and Pyatigorsk, mostly on the left bank.
