The road begins a little south of Kaluga on the R132 Kaluga - Rjasan (a few kilometers west of Kaluga also runs the M3 Ukraina Moscow - Brjansk - border to Ukraine ) and leads south to Oryol, with its central section through the extreme west of the Tula Oblast . The road is mostly two-lane and - with the exception of shorter gravel sections in the Chekalin - Beljow area - asphalted.
