R257 on Russia's trunk road network |
The R257 Yenisei is a Russian trunk road in southern Siberia . It leads from Krasnoyarsk in a southerly direction along the west bank of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir of the eponymous Yenisei to Abakan (capital of Khakassia ), further to the right of the Yenisei to Kyzyl (capital of Tuva ) and on to Zagan-Tolgoi on the border with Mongolia . It is 1111 kilometers long.
The part of the road from Abakan or Minusinsk into the area of today's Republic of Tuva has been called the US tract ( Russian Усинский тракт / Ussinski trakt) since the 19th century , after the Us , a tributary of the Yenisei , through whose valley the road runs in parts . In this way, towards the end of the 19th century, the northern part of Tuwas, which still belongs to China, was colonized by Russian resettlers, called the US region (Ussinski krai). Today this designation is sometimes used unofficially for the entire R257.
The road was given the number R257 in 2010. Before that, it was numbered M54.
