The A 163 is a trunk road of regional importance in the west of the Russian Republic of Tuva . It leads from the small town of Chadan over the Tannu-ola Mountains to the Mongolian border and represents the connection from the central part of the republic to the southwest part with the Koschuun ( Rajons ) Owjurski and Mongun-Taiginski .

course

The A 163 branches off six kilometers west of the small town of Chadan from the A162 highway , the most important artery of the Republic of Tuva, which runs from Teeli in the far west to the capital Kyzyl and connects four of the five cities of the republic. It follows the course of the Ulug-Chondergei river (in the lower Kara-Sug) through the initially gently rising steppe landscape of the Tuvinian Basin in a southerly direction. Passing the village of Chondergei, after about 30 kilometers, you will reach the larch forests of the western Tannu-ola Mountains. The road climbs through the narrower and steeper river valley to the 1950  m high Chondergei Pass (also Chundurgun Pass).

On the southern flank of the mountains, the road drops steeply into the Uws-Nuur basin. A few kilometers before the village of Chandagaity , a road branches off in a westerly direction along the Mongolian border to the village of Sagly, about 60 kilometers away, further unpaved to Mugur-Aksy , the administrative center of the south-westernmost Koschuun of the Republic of Mongun-Taiginski. From Chandagaity a road runs along the Mongolian border in an easterly direction for 180 kilometers to Samagaltai on the M 54 , which also runs from Kyzyl to the Mongolian border.

The A 163 reaches the border crossing of the same name to Mongolia five kilometers south of Chandagaity. The border station on the Mongolian side is called Borschoo. From there the road continues to Ulaangom , a good 100 kilometers away , capital of the Uws aimag . The Chandagaity border crossing is one of the two crossings from the Republic of Tuva to Mongolia.
