Mugur-Aksy ( Russian and Tuvinian Мугу́р-Аксы́ ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Tuva in Russia with 4153 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 320 km as the crow flies west-southwest of the republic capital Kyzyl , about 20 km away from the border with Mongolia . It is located 25 km north-east of the 3976  m high mountain range Mongun-Taiga , the most easterly part of the Russian Altai forms, and immediately south of there nearly 3400  m height reach Zagan-Schibetu -Kammes, the southwest to the Tannu-ola Mountains connects . Mugur-Aksy is located at the mouth of the Mugur in the Kargy, which flows a good 40 km southeast, already in Mongolia and there called Charigijn Gol , the outflow-free lake Üüreg Nuur .

Mugur-Aksy is the administrative center of the Koschuun ( Rajons ) Mongun-Taiginski and the seat and only locality of the rural community (selskoje posselenije) Kargynski sumon .

The village is the highest located district center of Russia, in front of the neighboring Kosh-Agach in the Altai Republic to the west .

history

The village that was created in 1938 (the name means “Mugur estuary” in Tuvan) became the administrative seat of the newly created Koschuun , named after the highest mountain of the independent republic on March 24, 1941 , and initially remained so even after joining the Soviet Union 1944. In 1953 the Koschuun (Rajon) was dissolved and its territory was added to the Bai-Taiginski koschuun , based in Teeli, 70 km to the north . In 1968 the Koschuun was restored.

The unpaved regional road 93N-22 leads to Mugur-Aksy, which  branches off a good 100 km northeast near Chandagaity from the 93N-19 (formerly A163) Chadan - Mongolian border and follows the state border. From Mugur-Aksy further to the southwest, the 93N-24 leads to the village of Kyzyl-Chaja, a good 50 km away .

The village has a small unpaved airfield ( ICAO code UNAG ), which is now served irregularly (status 2014).
