The Tannu-ola Mountains ( Russian Танну-Ола ; Tuvinian Таңды-Уула Tangdy-Uula , Mongolian Тагнын нуруу Tagnyn nuruu ) are up to 3061 m high high mountains in the large landscape of the South Siberian Mountains . It is largely located in the Tuva Republic in Russia , with foothills in Mongolia . The mountain range consists of the Western (Russian Западный Танну-Ола ) and Eastern Tannu-ola Mountains ( Восточный Танну-Ола ).
Geographical location
In the east, the Tannu-ola Mountains in Mongolia merge with the extensive catchment basin of the Selenge ( Selenga ). In the south it borders on the steppe of a vast basin , on the far south side of which the Mongolian Altai rises. In the west it borders on the Russian Altai .
Only the extreme southern foothills of the mountains, which is also bordered by Lake Uws-Nuur , are in Mongolia. In the east of the mountains the Balyktyg-Chem , one of the headwaters of the left Yenisei source river, the Little Yenisei ( Kaa-Chem ), and at the interface of the Tannu-ola Mountains, West Sayan and Altai in the far west, the tributaries of the right Ob -Spring river Bija .

The highest peak of the Tannu-ola Mountains with an average height of 2500 to 2700 m is an unnamed mountain at 3061 m , which rises in the western Tannu-ola Mountains northwest of the settlement Sagly and near the mountain Tschureg-Dag ( 3056 m ). The Eastern Tannu-ola Mountains are a maximum of 2588 m high south of the settlement Chowu-Aksy .
