The R258 Baikal is a Russian trunk road in Siberia . It leads from Irkutsk along the south bank of the eponymous Lake Baikal to Ulan-Ude and from there to Chita . It is 1113 kilometers long and (along with the M5 Ural , R254 Irtysh , R255 Sibir , R297 Amur and A370 Ussuri ) part of the Russian transcontinental road connection from Moscow to Vladivostok and thus of the AH6 in the Asian trunk road network .

The road was given the number R258 in 2010. Before that, it was numbered M55.
