The R402 ( Russian Р402 ) is a trunk road of federal importance in Russia . The 632 km long road connects the oblast centers of Tyumen and Omsk in the southern part of the West Siberian lowlands . Up to about half of the route near Ischim , it follows the course of the Trans-Siberian Railway , after which it runs up to about 60 km north of the railway line.
On the section from Tyumen to Ischim, the R402 is also the easternmost part of European route 22 , between Ischim and Omsk of European route 30 and part of Asian Highway 6 . From Ishim to Omsk, the road is also part of the alternative route to the R254 Irtysh , whose direct route runs around the city of Petropavl over Kazakh territory for around 200 km . This section of the R402 is therefore also used by vehicles that want to avoid crossing the state border with Kazakhstan twice on the Chelyabinsk - Kurgan - Omsk route .
The entire length of the R402 is asphalted and mostly two-lane, mainly in the area of larger towns there are also four-lanes in sections, with some of the larger intersections being level .
