history

The village of Omutinskoje became an observation post in the first half of the 18th century (according to other sources as early as the 17th century), called "Fortress Omutnaya", on the border between the Russian Empire and the steppe regions of Central Asia. This makes it one of the oldest Russian villages in the area.

The place soon lost its military importance due to the shifting of the border to the south, but due to the favorable location not far from the Siberian tract , it developed economically well. Brick manufacture was the most important branch of the economy towards the end of the 19th century. This development continued when, starting in 1910, the gap in the then northern and now main line of the Trans-Siberian Railway between Tyumen and Omsk was closed and passed by Omutinskoje. The entire section went into operation in 1913.

In 1931 the place became the administrative center of a newly created Rajons, in 1959 it became an urban-type settlement under the name Omutinski. In 1993 the place was downgraded to a village again.
