geography

The city is located about 650 km northeast of the oblast capital Vologda on the Northern Dvina . Krassavino is administratively subordinate to the Rajon (district) Veliki Ustjug. history

Krassawino was established in 1848 when an Archangel merchant opened a linen weaving mill . After the factory was transferred to the industrialist Jakow Gribanow at the end of the 1850s and was subsequently expanded considerably, the weaving mill advanced to become one of the leading Russian manufacturers of linen fibers and exported its production abroad.

After the October Revolution of 1917, the factory was nationalized and a few years later it was converted into a combine . Around the same time, Krassavino officially became an urban-type settlement , until it was granted city status in 1947.
