Kharovsk ( Russian Харовск ) is a city in northwestern Russia . It is located in the Vologda Oblast and has 10,079 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located about 90 km north of the Oblast capital Vologda on the Kubena , a headwaters of the Suchona , and thus the Northern Dvina .

Kharovsk is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .

history

Kharovsk originated in 1900 during construction of the railway line Wologda- Arkhangelsk as Kubino , was named interim Leschtschowo and Charowski until 1954 was under the present name of a town.
