Selo imeni Babushkina ( Russian Село́ и́мени Ба́бушкина ) is a village (Selo) in the Vologda Oblast in Russia with 4035 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 194 km as the crow flies northeast of the oblast capital Vologda . The Ledenga ( Леденьга ), a tributary of the Suchona, flows through the village .

IMENI BABUSHKINA is the administrative center of the Rajons Babuschkinski and seat of the rural community Babuschkinskoje selskoje posselenije ( Бабушкинское сельское поселение ).

history

The place was created under the name Ledengskoje on the banks of the Ledenga river of the same name, in the course of the discovery of salt deposits in the 14th century. For more than 400 years, the production of salt was the most important industry in Ledengskoje. In 1841 a brine bath was founded in the village , which used the salty groundwater.

Ledengskoje belonged to the Totemski Ujesd , of the Vologda governorate , since the end of the 18th century . In 1929 Ledengskoje became the administrative center of the newly created Ledengsky Rajon in the Volgodski okrug of the Northern Krai .

In 1941 Ledengskoje was renamed Selo imeni Babuschkina in honor of the Soviet revolutionary Ivan Vasilyevich Babushkin.

The nationally known Ledengsk sanatorium has existed in the village since 1989 .

Attractions

The Babushkin Museum ( Дом-музей И.В.Бабушкина ) is located in the Selo imeni Babushkina . With the Babushkin bust, the site has a monument that is protected as a historical and cultural monument of federal importance. There is also a memorial in honor of the Soviet cosmonaut Pavel Ivanovich Belyayev , who was born in the nearby village of Chelishchev.

Economy and Transport

After the end of salt mining, the forest industry is now the most important economic sector in Selo imeni Babushkina.

The village is connected to the cities of Totma and Nikolsk by regional roads R7 .
