Woschega ( Russian Вожега ) is an urban-type settlement in the Vologda Oblast with 6,725 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

Woschega is located about 170 kilometers north of the Vologda Oblast Administrative Center . The eponymous lake Wosche is located about 55 kilometers west of the village .

Woschega is the administrative seat of the Woschegodski rajon and the urban community Woschegodskoje gorodskoje posselenije ( Вожегодское городское поселение ), which was founded in 2006 and includes 48 other villages in addition to Woschega.

history

The place was created in 1895 as a train station on the Vologda - Arkhangelsk railway line, which has been under construction since 1894 . Until 1929 he belonged to the Kadnikowski ujesd of the Vologda governorate . Due to an administrative reform in 1929, Woschega became the administrative seat of the newly founded Woschegodski rajon, which at that time belonged to the Volgodski okrug of the Northern Krai . Woschega has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1932.

Economy and Transport

The most important economic branch of the place is the wood processing industry. There are also several small construction companies, a bread factory and a hotel.

Voshega is a train station on the Moscow - Vologda - Arkhangelsk route of the Russian Northern Railway . On regional roads of the town in the north (above is Konosha and Velsk ) and south ( Sjamscha and Kharovsk ) with the highway M8 connected.

Culture and sights

In Woschega there is a general education school as well as a sports, art, music and denominational school. Since 1995 there has been the local museum of the Woschegodski rajon ( Вожегодский районный краеведческий музей ), the 100th anniversary of the place was opened. In the same year the Church of the Prophet Elijah ( Церковь Илии Пророка ) was built in Woschega.
