Kitschmengski Gorodok ( Russian Ки́чменгский Городо́к ) is a village (Selo) in the Vologda Oblast with 6,443 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

Kitschmengski Gorodok is located in the far east of Vologda Oblast, about 340 kilometers east of the Vologda Oblast Administrative Center . The place is on the left side of the Jug River . Within kichmengsky gorodok leads the eponymous the place Kichmenga River , from the north, in the Jug.

Kitschmengski Gorodok is the administrative seat of the Kitschmengsko-Gorodetsky rajon and the rural community Gorodetskoye selskoje posselenije ( Городецкое сельское поселение ), which includes 100 other villages and settlements in addition to Kitschmengski Gorodok.

history

Kitschmengski Gorodok was first mentioned in 1468 in the Ustyug Chronicles ( Устюжский летописец ) with a description of the burning down of the place by Kazan-Tatar armies. Under Prince Pyotr Serebrjany-Obolensky ( Пётр Семёнович Серебряный-Оболенский ) the place was rebuilt in 1569. Kitschmengski Gorodok was a fortress at that time and was recorded in 1599 in the General Staff Map Bolshoi Chertjosch ( Большой Чертёж ) commissioned by the Russian Tsar Ivan IV . Under the reign of Tsar Peter the Great , Kitschmengski Gorodok became part of the Archangelgorod Governorate in 1708 and, in 1780, through a Ukas Katharinas the great part of the governorship of Vologda ( Вологодское наместничество , Vologodskoje namestnitschestvo ). From 1796 to 1929 he belonged to the Kitschmengskaja wolost ( Кичменгская волость ) in the Nikolsky ujesd of the Vologda governorate . In 1918 the Ujesd became part of the Northern Dvina Governorate ( Северо-Двинская губерния ). The Ujesde was abolished through an administrative reform in 1924 and Kitschmengski Gorodok became the administrative seat of the newly founded Kitschmengsko-Gorodezki rajon.

Economy and Transport

Wood processing companies, food factories and agricultural companies are located in the Kitschmengski Gorodok. The largest employer is the food company OAO Mjaso ( ОАО "Мясо" ), which has been in existence since 1953 and produces various meat products.

Kitschmengski Gorodok is located on the R157 regional road between Nikolsk, 50 kilometers south, and Veliky Ustyug, 90 kilometers to the north . The place is owned by an airport with a weekly flight connection to Vologda.

Culture and sights

In the village is the Alexander Nevsky Church ( Церковь Александра Невского ), built between 1882 and 1885, and the Uspensky Church , built in 1893 and 1896 ( Церковь Успения Пресвятой Богородцой Богого ). The Kitschmengsko-Gorodetski rajon museum ( Кичменгско-Городецкий районный краеведческий музей ) has been in Kitschmengsky Gorodok since 1983 .
