Archangelgorod Governorate
The Archangelgorod Governorate ( Russian Архангелогоро́дская губе́рния , scientific transliteration Archangelogorodskaja gubernija ) was a governorate in Tsarist Russia and the Russian Empire , which existed from 1708 to 1780. The capital of the governorate was the city of Arkhangelsk .

The governorate was in the northwest of Tsarist Russia. In the east it bordered on the Siberian governorate , in the southeast on the Kazan governorate , in the south-west on the Moscow governorate and the Ingermanland governorate (from 1710 on the Saint Petersburg governorate ) and in the west on the Kingdom of Sweden . In the north, the governorate was bounded by the White Sea , the Arctic Ocean and the Barents Sea .
history
The governorate Archangelgorod was together with seven other governorates in the course of a major administrative reform Tsar Peter the Great on December 18th jul. / 29 December 1708 greg. created. The reform included neither a clear demarcation between the eight governorates nor an internal subdivision of the governorates into further administrative units. The Ujesde that existed up to this point were abolished with the reform. As with the other governorates, the territory of the Archangelgorod governorate was defined on the basis of assigned cities and their lands. The Archangelgorod Governorate consisted of the following 20 cities:

By a ukase of Peter the Great on January 28th jul. / February 8, 1715 greg. the governorate were administratively divided into so-called Doli (singular Dolja , Russian Доля ), which was headed by a district administrator. On May 29th, Jul. / June 9, 1719 greg. Another change in the administrative structure took place. The existing doli were renamed districts ( Дистрикт ). The Tscharondskaja dolja was incorporated into the Saint Petersburg governorate, while the Jarensky district was assigned to the Archangelgorod governorate and Kishema to the Moscow governorate. In addition, the Governorate of Archangelgorod was divided into the following four provinces by the Governorate Senate:

In 1727 all districts within the governorate were renamed Ujesde again. The Archangelgorod governorate existed until January 14th jul. / January 25, 1780 greg. . The dissolution took place via the ukase of Catherine the Great . The territories of the governorate subsequently became part of the Vologda governorship .
