Walter Knoglinger

Walter Knoglinger (born December 1, 1928 in Ried im Innkreis ; † August 22, 2012 ) was an Austrian journalist and sports official .

From 1977 to 1988 he headed the Office for Press and Tourism of the City of Linz. As president of the state sailing association, he was appointed consultant for sport to the Upper Austrian state government.

Journalist and publicist

Walter Knoglinger grew up in Peuerbach as the son of the local secondary school teacher and poet August Knoglinger .

After attending secondary schools in Vienna and Linz , he worked from 1948 to 1968 as a journalist for daily and weekly newspapers in Linz and Vienna and as head of public relations for a car manufacturer. Among other things, he worked from 1949 to 1954 for the then largest Upper Austrian weekly newspaper Echo der Heimat , temporarily also as its editor-in-chief. He was a member of the editorial board of the Upper Austrian News for ten years .

In addition to his job, he studied journalism , art history and history at the University of Vienna .

In 1969 he came to the Office for Press and Tourism of the City of Linz and from 1977 to 1988 he was head of this office. In this capacity, he was editor of the magazines Linz active and what's going on .

He wrote numerous essays and articles on cultural and art-historical topics and is the author of regional studies and books.

Sports official

Knoglinger learned to sail in a naval school on the Baltic Sea and indulged in his hobby on the Attersee . He was President of the Upper Austrian Sailing Association for 32 years, was then appointed Honorary President of the Association and he was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor of the Upper Austrian Sailing Association.

As a consultant to the Upper Austrian provincial government for sports, he campaigned for the Upper Austrian sailing clubs in offices and authorities.
