Kologriw ( Russian Кологрив ) is a small town in the Russian Oblast Kostroma with 3314 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The city is located about 340 kilometers northeast of the oblast capital Kostroma on the left bank of the Unscha , a left tributary of the Volga .

Kologriw is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .

The city is located 80 kilometers north of Manturovo on the trunk line of the Trans-Siberian Railway, which opened on this section in 1906 (route km 651 from Moscow ).

history

At the beginning of the 17th century, a town Kologriw an der Unscha was first mentioned. In vernacular, Kologriw referred to a stallion with a thick mane (see also city arms), but the exact etymology of the city name is unclear. The old city of Kologriw was later abandoned; the village of Arkhangelskoye arose in its place .

When the Kostroma governorship was established in 1778, the village of Kitschino , 40 kilometers downstream, was designated as the administrative center of a district ( Ujesds ) and renamed Kologriw in memory of the old town .

The form of the name Kologriwow was used at times .

The Dormition Cathedral was built in Kologriw from 1800 to 1815. Tsar Alexander I visited Kologriv in October 1824.
