The Unscha ( Russian Унжа ) is a 426 km long left tributary of the Volga in the European part of Russia .

It arises on the north Russian ridge east of Knjaschewo in the Vologda Oblast from the source rivers Kema and Lundonga and flows into the Gorkier reservoir behind Kineschma .

The catchment area of the Unscha, which is frozen over from November to April, covers 28,900 km².

The main tributaries are Wiga , Neja and Mescha . The largest city on the Unscha is Manturovo .
