history
The first mention of the village with the name Manturowo is found in a local document from 1617. Even then, the place served as a river port on the Unscha, which is why many of its inhabitants were involved in shipbuilding and trading. The origin of the name Manturovo dates back to earlier times, when the area was settled by a Finno-Ugric people.
The village only experienced significant economic development from the 1870s, when regular agricultural fairs and weekly markets were held there, with the river again serving as the transport route. At that time Manturovo had around 160 inhabitants.
The development towards the city began with the laying of the Trans-Siberian Railway at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1906 the Vologda - Vjatka section was put into operation and a station near Manturowo was built on it. This favored the emergence and development of the wood industry. In 1917 there were already four sawmills in the village as well as a later important wood-based materials plant .
After the October Revolution in 1917, Manturowo gradually developed into a workers' settlement of the wood-based panel factory, which was now operated as a combine . In 1927 the status of an urban-type settlement was given, and in 1935 to Jurowski, which is almost immediately to the south, where one of the works was located. With the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR on April 11, 1958, Manturovo received city rights; at the same time Jurowski was incorporated.
