The place is nicknamed the city of Atomic in connection with the power plant site of the Kostroma nuclear power plant located one kilometer to the east .
history
Tschistyje Bory was initially a small village with just 3000 inhabitants. In 1983, in connection with the construction of the Kostroma nuclear power plant, the city began to be expanded and residential capacities for a further 7,000 inhabitants were created. During this time, a great number of people moved to Chistye Bory. During weddings, the place had more than 8,500 inhabitants. After the construction of the nuclear power plant was halted in 1986 after the Chernobyl disaster and the financing was finally suspended in 1992, the city's population declined over time. The settlement fell victim to the same development as the city of Agidel , which was built in connection with the construction of the Bashkiria nuclear power plant .
In 2000 there was a final veto against the construction of the nuclear power plant, which has continued to reduce the number of inhabitants to this day. However, the Duma withdrew its veto against a construction in 2007, so that the Kostroma site remains open as a replacement capacity.
