Loïc Burkhalter (born February 11, 1980 in La Chaux-de-Fonds ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC La Chaux-de-Fonds from the National League B since 2014 .

Career

Loïc Burkhalter, who initially played in the offspring of HC La Chaux-de-Fonds , already indicated his qualities as an 18-year-old with convincing performances in the National League B and quickly became a multiple Swiss champion with Adrian Wichser , who was around a month younger and former Swiss national player for many years - judged by the same standards. In the following two years he played for the elite A-Juniors of HC Ambrì-Piotta , as well as for La Chaux-de-Fonds in the National League A and NLB. However, Burkhalter's development initially stagnated after his move in the 1999 calendar year to the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the National League A, although he prevented relegation with these in the league qualification against the SCL Tigers . Another transfer within the highest Swiss league to HC Ambrì-Piotta for the 2001/02 season had a positive effect on the striker's performance. The striker managed to take on a leading role in the team, in addition to his points, which he more than doubled within two seasons and achieved his career best with 47 scorer points in the qualification. During this time, the left shooter was selected in the ninth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft at a total of 290th position by the Phoenix Coyotes . A Zweiwegvertrag offered in the organization of the NHL - franchises in the US state of Arizona did not accept Burkhalter, as it explicitly insisted on a one-way contract.

In early December 2003 he was signed by the SCL Tigers for the following season. There he could not fully build on the performance shown. In general, the center forward never came close to the highest points of his career at that time since his Ambrì engagement. In January 2006 he finally moved to HC Davos , for which he had contested the 2005 Spengler Cup . The HCD bought Burkhalter from the existing contract for 200,000 Swiss francs. In the first three months at HCD Burkhalter lived with trainer Arno Del Curto , but was at times considered a so-called problem player. In 2006 he won the Spengler Cup with HC Davos and in 2007 he was Swiss champion with the same club .

During the 2007/08 season Burkhalter signed a three-year contract in Rapperswil before the Davoser transferred him to the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in January 2008 in exchange for Sven Helfenstein .

On August 18, 2010, Burkhalter extended his contract with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers prematurely for another 3 years. During the 2013/14 season he was loaned to EHC Biel . In the summer of 2014 he returned to his hometown club, with which he signed a three-year contract.

International

Loïc Burkhalter made his only appearance for Switzerland at a World Cup at the U20 World Cup in 2000 . In 2006 he was appointed to the Swiss national ice hockey team to prepare for the World Cup and for the Loto Cup in Slovakia.

Style of play

Burkhalter is considered to be a complete playmaker who has an excellent command of the puck. He has the appropriate skills to direct a game and knows how to stage his teammates accordingly. At the Lakers it is an elementary part of power play and game design. A negative factor in Burkhalter's current account is his fluctuations in performance; an overly responsible key position can lead to these.
