Life

Roland Meinl was the oldest son of Emil and Hedwig Meinl. He graduated from business school in Silberbach and was drafted into military service as an anti-aircraft helper at the end of the war.

After the end of the war he began an apprenticeship as a wind instrument maker in Kraslice , but had to break it off after his family was expelled from the Sudetenland. In Rimpar near Würzburg he was able to start a new training. The family then moved to Neustadt an der Aisch in Franconia, where Roland Meinl founded the Roland Meinl Musical Instruments company in 1951. Initially, production was carried out without machines and in small numbers. Meinl transported the handcrafted basins to the Neustädter Bahnhof for dispatch on the bicycle rack. The company expanded and hired its first employee in 1964. In 1969 the company, which had grown into a medium-sized company, moved into a new company building. In the 1970s Meinl increased production and set up a machine park. At the same time, he established his wholesale business, through which, for example, concert guitars were also sold.

In 1972 his son Reinhold joined the company; A few years later, Roland Meinl transferred the management of the company to him. In 1978 Roland Meinl founded a production facility for percussion instruments in Bangkok , thus expanding the company's product range. As a consultant, Roland Meinl remained connected to the company well into old age.

Meinl was married and had two children, Ingeborg and Reinhold.
