Subzow ( Russian Зубцов ) is a small town in Tver Oblast ( Russia ) with 6927 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city lies between the foothills of the heights of Bely and the Smolensk Heights about 150 kilometers southwest of the Oblast capital Tver at the confluence of the right tributary Wasusa into the Volga .
Subzow is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .
The city lies on the railway line Moscow - Riga opened on this section in 1901 (route km 217). The M9 Moscow - Velikije Luki - Latvian border (on via Rēzekne to Riga) also runs through Subyow
history
Subzow was first mentioned in chronicles in 1216 and from 1247 it belonged to the Principality of Tver as one of its border fortresses .
In 1485 the place was attached to the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Between 1605 and 1612 the city was plundered several times by Polish-Lithuanian troops. With the construction of the Vyshny Volotschok waterway system at the beginning of the 18th century, Subzow became an important transshipment point.
In 1776 town charter was granted. Towards the end of the 19th century, the city is an important linen trading point .
During the Second World War , Subzow was occupied by the German Wehrmacht on October 11, 1941 and recaptured on August 23, 1942 by troops of the Western Front of the Red Army as part of the Rschew-Sychovka operation .

The Assumption Cathedral ( Успенский собор / Uspenski sobor) from 1801 is located in Subzow .
The city has a local museum.

In Subzow there is a machine factory as well as companies in the textile and food industries.
