The Smolensk Heights are a very elongated mountain range up to 320 m high in the Ukraine , Belarus and Russia .
The Smolensk Heights are part of the great Eastern European Plain and the eastern continuation of the Belarusian Ridge . The ridge lies roughly between Worscha and Moscow , although the Moscow ridge already forms its eastern continuation near the Russian capital . To the southwest of this metropolis , the Smolensk Heights merge seamlessly with the Central Russian Plate .
The low mountain-like landscape of Smolensk heights is characterized by hilly and mountainous areas, pass through the partially quite deeply grooved river valleys.
The Dnieper flows through the Smolensk Heights. On the border with the Central Russian Plate and the Moscow Ridge, these rivers arise, among others: Desna , Moskva and Ugra . The biggest cities are Worscha , Smolensk and Vyazma .
