The Wasusa ( Russian Вазуза ) is a 162 km long right tributary of the Volga in the European part of Russia .

The Wasusa rises not far from the village Drobyschi in the northern part of the Smolensk Heights in the northeast of the Smolensk Oblast . From there it flows north through the landscape characterized by forests and fields.

The Wasusa reaches the small town of Sychovka about halfway along its route . A little later, the backwater of the Wasusa reservoir begins ( Russian Вазузское водохранилище ) ( ). The river is dammed up over 77 km to form a reservoir of around 97 km². The reservoir extends to the southern Tver Oblast .

The reservoir ends around 2 km southwest of the city of Subzow . In Subzow the Wasusa finally flows into the Volga. The river and the reservoir are very popular destinations for excursions.

The Wasusa is frozen on average from November to April.
