Sychovka ( Russian Сычёвка , German also incorrectly Sychevka ) is a small town in the Smolensk Oblast ( Russia ) with 8111 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the northern edge of the Sychovka-Vyazma Heights about 235 kilometers northeast of the Oblast capital Smolensk on the Wasusa , a right tributary of the Volga .
Sychovka is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
The city lies on the railway line Lichoslavl - Torzhok - Rzhev - Vyazma, opened on this section in 1881 (route km 184).
history
Sychovka was first named in 1488 as the Tver Prince Ivan Molodoi, a son of Tsar Ivan III. belonging village mentioned. In 1493 it belonged to the Tsar's court. The name is derived from the Russian word sytsch for Kauz - also in a figurative sense - (see also city arms).
In 1776 the town was granted city rights.
During the Second World War , Sychovka was occupied by the German Wehrmacht on October 10, 1941 and recaptured on March 8, 1943 by troops of the Western Front of the Red Army after the Wehrmacht had cleared the Rzhev front .

Culture and sights
The city has a local museum.
In the village of Sokolino there is the Epiphany Church ( Богоявленская церковь / Bogojawlenskaja zerkow) from 1847. Nearby is the former country residence Dugino , of the diplomat Count Nikita Panin (1770-1837, including ambassador to Berlin) from the 18th to 19th centuries . In the village of Boris-Gleb there is the Boris-and-Gleb Church ( Борисоглебская / Borissoglebskaja Zerkow) from 1771 and the Nilus Church ( Нильская / Nilskaja zerkow) from 1897.
economy
In Sychovka there is an electrotechnical factory, a printing plant, as well as wood and food industries.
