history

The place was first mentioned in 1526 under the name Choslawitschi . From the end of the 18th century the place belonged to the Ujesd Mstislavl of the Mogiljow governorate . Chislavichi was one of the larger shtetl in the region with a Jewish population of around 80% at the turn of the 20th century. During this time the current form of the name became official.

In 1928 Chislavichi became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. During the Second World War , the place was occupied by the German Wehrmacht from July 16, 1941 to September 26, 1943 . In the first months after the occupation there was a ghetto for the Jewish population, who were murdered or deported on site until the beginning of 1942.

In 1965 the Chislavichi received urban-type settlement status.
