history
The place has been known since 1806 as a village called Kuznetsovo ( Кузнецово ). It gained significant importance at the end of the 1820s when a porcelain and faience factory was built here. Over the years, the production of this factory gained a good reputation in other regions of Russia, which has made Kuznetsovo supraregional. In 1929 the settlement was renamed Konakowo in honor of a revolutionary named Porfiri Konakow , and in 1937 it was given city status.

Probably the best-known company in the city is the Konakovskaya GRES thermal power plant northeast of the town center. It was built in 1969 and today belongs to the regional energy supply company Enel OGK-5 , which was spun off from the state energy company Unified Energy System in 2004. In addition, there is still a factory for faience dishes in Konakowo, which grew out of the old porcelain and faience factory. Other industrial companies in Konakovo are a building materials and tool factory.
Konakowo has a landing stage on the Ivankowoer reservoir, thus on the upper reaches of the Volga between Tver and Dubna . There is also a railway connection through a branch line that branches off from the Saint Petersburg – Moscow railway line.
