Anik A1 is one of the first generations of earth synchronous telecommunication satellites , which was built by Hughes Aircraft and delivered to the Canadian company Telesat Canada .

history

The satellite was launched into geostationary Earth orbit on November 9, 1972 from Cape Canaveral, Florida, by a delta launcher . The satellite was designed for a period of seven years, but operated until July 15, 1982.

reception

With this satellite, it was possible to supply all of Canada from Newfoundland to Alaska with telephone and television signals. The satellite had 12 C-band - transponder to transmit on board with which it was possible 12 color television channels.
